On the move: A new home for Alexie RicRac

My dream for Alexie RicRac has always been to write about living life as someone who pursues the simplicity and the style of bygone eras, as well as incorporating my values of sustainable living. You may have noticed I haven’t really written much about ‘sustainable living’ but for the most part my posts definitely have an undertone of leading a sustainable life. When I started this little blog at the end of 2014, the plan to turn it into a website was always on the cards. As Alexie RicRac readies itself for the next phase of its journey, it is time to make the move to a self-hosted site.

I’m still updating my Bloglovin’ links – I need to write a post from my new address before it will recognise it is a blog, so please make sure you update your bookmarks with the new address – www.alexiericrac.com.au.

I can’t wait to share the next part of my journey with you, and hope you continue to enjoy being a part of the ride.

What To Wear Wednesday #7

It might be the end of summer in just four days with daylight savings ending (hurry up already October so I can have more sunshine!), but when I saw this dress come up on a Facebook buy/swap/sell group that I am a part of I simply could not pass it up. I only tried it on last week in store but because of the fact that I don’t like to buy clothes new (unless I absolutely cannot get it any other way), I didn’t part with the cash.
Styling outfits is a little hard to do with thrifted clothes and accessories though, so I have to show you new items, but perhaps you just use them purely for inspiration, like I do. Continue reading

Special Edition: Ballarat Beat

A chance click a few weeks ago when looking at my favourite vintage and pin-up Facebook pages alerted me to the fact that the Ballarat Beat Rockabilly Festival was coming up. I had it in my head that Ballarat Beat was a little closer to Easter. Given that Easter moves every year I don’t know why I had that thought in my head. Never the less, Ballarat Beat was this weekend and we cleared our schedules to go! We stayed with my oldest friend and her partner: Rach and I have been friends for 26 years, we went to kinder and primary school together, and we also worked together in our final year of high school. Spending the weekend with Rach and Andrew was wonderful, all four of us are so busy the last time we saw each other was August 2014. Rach works for Ballarat Regional Tourism, and Ballarat Beat is one of her babies.  Continue reading

Friday Finds #1

I love shopping. I love online shopping. I love finding things that are rare, not from the same mould as others – or if they are it has to have a seriously high dose of what The Mister calls ‘Hollie Flavour’. I love trawling etsy and, while I’m yet to compile an etsy treasury, I do favourite a LOT of beautiful wares. Clothing, accessories, graphics, furniture, home wares, pretty much anything goes. If I love it, I find that heart and make it my dream. Friday Finds is a little bit of everything that I am fawning over that perhaps one day you or I can add to our collections. There’s no hard and fast rule as to where things come from, just that they possess that certain element of Hollie Flavour and of course, a hint of 40s or 50s doesn’t go astray. Continue reading

Christmas Wishes

It’s easily my favourite time of year, Christmas. I love the joy and cheer, the time spent with families, and the warmth of the season, which has two meanings for me. The first is that I love the warmth of the Christmas spirit – people doing lovely things for each other, people enjoying each others’ company, and people generally being in a good mood. The second is quite literal, the warmth of summer. Being in the southern hemisphere, we celebrate Christmas in the sun. Some places in Australia reach searing heat levels, but here in Melbourne, we tend to have a mild 25-30 degrees (Celsius, not Farenheit, but if you want to talk Farenheit that would be roughly 77-86 degrees). We still have all the trimmings, including roasts for lunch – boy that can be super hot! – we just wear summer clothes. Continue reading

The dreaded first post…or something new and exciting?

I guess it’s only dreaded because you want something catchy and meaningful, hoping your musings will be read far and wide, but in actual fact, it’s the start of something new and exciting.

*   *   *

A few weeks ago, the Mister and I decided we’d start up a bit of a hobby business buying, restoring where needed, then on-selling vintage goods. I also saw it as an opportunity to let my true self exist and connect with other like-minded individuals, and so Alexie RicRac was born (although a pseudonym, it is also an anagram of sorts our first and last names…points if you can figure it out!).
