On the move: A new home for Alexie RicRac

My dream for Alexie RicRac has always been to write about living life as someone who pursues the simplicity and the style of bygone eras, as well as incorporating my values of sustainable living. You may have noticed I haven’t really written much about ‘sustainable living’ but for the most part my posts definitely have an undertone of leading a sustainable life. When I started this little blog at the end of 2014, the plan to turn it into a website was always on the cards. As Alexie RicRac readies itself for the next phase of its journey, it is time to make the move to a self-hosted site.

I’m still updating my Bloglovin’ links – I need to write a post from my new address before it will recognise it is a blog, so please make sure you update your bookmarks with the new address – www.alexiericrac.com.au.

I can’t wait to share the next part of my journey with you, and hope you continue to enjoy being a part of the ride.

The day I got my life back: Why I gave up Facebook

Facebook: Some people love it, others hate it, and then there are those who – like me – are sucked in by it but don’t know what they’re actually doing there. It was great for keeping in touch with family and friends overseas or interstate who I might not get to see so often, as well as keeping my finger on the pulse for all uni matters. And let’s not forget the fact that there is Alexie RicRac and Little Goldfish, both of which I am trying to build a social media presence for. So why then did I decide to give up Facebook? That moment of clarity before the New Year strikes

Impromptu last day of the year entry.

A few weeks months ago, I decided that I wanted to really make a concerted effort when it came to blogging. Sure, I’m not the only one who’s had this epiphany, but I realised that I do want to tell my story and to hopefully have others share in my journey. I enjoy writing, so why the heck not?

I’ve been pinning things left, right and centre (outside of my desire to lead a vintage life, I also make children’s invitations and stationery and all my Pinterest activity happens on my biz profile) about how to improve my blogs from organisational tips to photo tips to general motivational quotes. I’ve been reading other blogs about improving my blog Continue reading

Christmas Wishes

It’s easily my favourite time of year, Christmas. I love the joy and cheer, the time spent with families, and the warmth of the season, which has two meanings for me. The first is that I love the warmth of the Christmas spirit – people doing lovely things for each other, people enjoying each others’ company, and people generally being in a good mood. The second is quite literal, the warmth of summer. Being in the southern hemisphere, we celebrate Christmas in the sun. Some places in Australia reach searing heat levels, but here in Melbourne, we tend to have a mild 25-30 degrees (Celsius, not Farenheit, but if you want to talk Farenheit that would be roughly 77-86 degrees). We still have all the trimmings, including roasts for lunch – boy that can be super hot! – we just wear summer clothes. Continue reading

The dreaded first post…or something new and exciting?

I guess it’s only dreaded because you want something catchy and meaningful, hoping your musings will be read far and wide, but in actual fact, it’s the start of something new and exciting.

A few weeks ago, the Mister and I decided we’d start up a bit of a hobby business buying, restoring where needed, then on-selling vintage goods. I also saw it as an opportunity to let my true self exist and connect with other like-minded individuals, and so Alexie RicRac was born (although a pseudonym, it is also an anagram of sorts our first and last names…points if you can figure it out!).
